NTPC to focus on diversification |

National Thermal Power Corporation will concentrate on addition of hydro capacity and foraying into non-conventional and nuclear power generation.
NTPC chairman and managing director T Shankarlingam said the company’s article of association would soon be rectified to permit it to embark into nuclear.
“We expect 2000 mw nuclear power generation in the middle of 12th Plan through two plants,” he added.
Besides generation, the company plans to enter manufacturing of power equipment while it may not actually fructify during the 11th Plan period. diversification
The company in a bid to make sure fuel security has raided mining and would create 15 million tonnes of coal yearly from its first project at Pakri Barwadih.
NTPC is in the process of finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding with Nigerian government to establish power plants there alongside allocation of LNG on long-term basis for its plants in India.
The PSU major has contracted with Sri Lankan government and Ceylon Electricity Board to build a 500 mw coal-based power plant in that country. It also constituted a coalition with Japan's Kyushu Electric Power Company to exchange information and expertise.
NTPC Ltd announced a 15.57% increase in net profit at Rs 6,726.4 crore for 2006-07 from Rs 5,820.2 crore the previous year. The company added 3155 mw during the year ended March 31, 2007 taking total capacity addition during the 10th Plan period to 7155 mw.
The company's net sales grew 17.20% at Rs 30,638.7 crore as compared to Rs 26,142.9 crore in 2005-06. |
