The Videocon Group declared plans to establish two Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in addition to a semiconductor design-cum-fabrication complex near Kolkata, West Bengal.
Venugopal Dhoot, Videocon’s chairman who met West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya at the state secretariat Writers' Building late Friday evening said, “Since the West Bengal government’s offer is good we are considering this state as a viable option.”
Mr. Dhoot said the fabrication centre would be built up with an initial investment of Rs.10 billion, which may rise further if the project is taken up in stages.
The company is searching for about 100 acres of land near Kolkata for the semiconductor and fabrication complex.
The Videocon’s two SEZs in the state would be constructed at Dabagram in Jalpaiguri district and another at Guptamani near Kharagpur.
“The SEZ at Dabgram would be set up over state government housing department land and there would not be any land acquisition problems,” the chief minister said.
The SEZ would offer work to 1,000 people.
Dhoot said that Videocon would establish an IT tower at Salt Lake that would produce work for 30,000 people. |
