Yesterday after opening at 13,479.49, the stock index continued to trade sturdily for the whole day, which is supported by constant purchasing by the FIIs and global cues. The constant buying interest was also seen among the investors.
After touching a high of 13,08.40, the stock index marked its closure on a sturdy note. The BSE Sensex soared up 311.50 points to close at 13,695.58 while Nifty closed at 4,013.35 after making a gain of 96 points.
The overall breadth of the market was positive, which experienced 1804 advancements as against 776 declinations.
Among the sectoral indices, BSE FMCG rose 2.62%, BSE Bankex rose 1.25%, BSE Auto rose 1.47% and BSE Metal rose 2.76%.
Leaders on the index include, ACC, which rose 5.14% to close at Rs 786.55, Tata Steel rose 4.33% to touch Rs 533.40 and Grasim rose 3.90% to finish at Rs 2,376.80. Reliance Comm., ITC and Reliance Industries moved up.
Laggards on the index are HDFC Bank, which declined 0.80%, to settle at Rs 971.50 and Satyam, declined 0.46% to end the day at Rs 479.35. |
